Regulatory compliance

Food & safety compliance simplified

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 204 aims for greater traceability and transparency throughout the supply chain.

Real-time, item-level traceability technology from Mojix equips your company to meet these new standards, streamlining your operations and upholding the health & safety of customers.

The FSMA 204 compliance deadline is January 20, 2026

Also known as the Food Traceability Rule, FSMA 204 requires food producers, restaurants, and retailers to comply with heightened regulations. These regulations address the ongoing challenges throughout food supply chains such as product recalls, food-borne illness, and food waste.

By implementing traceability technology to collect compliance data, companies quickly identify recalls, track the source of contamination, and effectively remove dangerous goods before they cause public health incidents. With Mojix, your company is equipped with advanced traceability features that meet the necessary demands of this new rule.

What are the FSMA 204 Requirements?

The Food Traceability Rule mandates businesses to maintain precise, updated records of key data elements (KDEs) and critical tracking events (CTEs) for all foods listed on the Food Traceability List.

Records must be secured, retained, and accessible for a minimum of 24 months. Food traceability data must also be delivered within 24 hours to the FDA if requested.

Key requirements* of FSMA 204 include:

  • Developing a food traceability plan
  • Accurately tracking traceability lot codes throughout the supply chain
  • Gathering key data elements at all critical tracking events
  • Providing records to the FDA within 24 hours of a request

Requirements also involve closely monitoring items on the Food Traceability List (FTL). If your company produces goods or supplies products containing ingredients on the FTL, additional recordkeeping will be required.
